With a rapidly growing portfolio of specialist eye hospitals eye care provider Optegra has ambitious plans to change the model of eye care provision both in the UK and internationally.
Receiving patient referrals through shared care schemes with partner optometrists (News 05.09.08), the company's hospitals provide specialist ophthalmic treatment and aim to play a significant role in the introduction of new technology in ophthalmology.
'Quite simply our plan is to provide the best facilities and the most advanced technology which will attract the best surgeons and therefore deliver the best outcomes,' explained Optegra's chief executive Tim Clover. 'One of the key themes that we see developing in Europe is a move away from general hospital provision in key areas. The ability of Spire or Nuffield [other private healthcare providers] to fully equip an ophthalmic department with OCTs, lasers and specialist microscopes is just impossible.'
