The 'Leadership InSight' programme is one of the innovative courses run by the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) at its annual conference (Optician, November 9, 2007). Twenty delegates attended the course this year in Tampa they came from across the US, Mexico and the UK and their backgrounds were as diverse as community practice, research, industry and the military.

The course was established between 1991 and 1994. Twenty-eight optometrists, representing different segments of the profession, met to consider the rapid changes taking place in optometry in the US and the need to deal with these changes proactively and effectively.
