Oscar winning actor Javier Bardem has donated an image of his retina to Spanish non-profit, Ojos del Mundo, to raise money for its new Irises of the World fundraising campaign.
The image will be sold at auction as a unique digital non-fungible token and a photographic print authenticated by the actor.
Ojos del Mundo, which translates as Eyes of the World, will use the amount raised by the new campaign to expand its provision of eye care and promote new projects in Saharawi refugee camps, Mozambique, Bolivia and Mali.
‘We want to communicate that the right to vision should not be subject to the availability of economic resources of a person or a country,’ said Anna Barba, director at Ojos del Mundo. ‘It’s a question of giving sight back to thousands of people without resources who suffer from serious eye problems that can be prevented or treated if action is taken in time.’
