Northampton-based independent Tompkins, Knight & Son Optometrists has dispensed a pair of bespoke Tom Davies frames for Special Olympics gymnast Ellie-Bea Thomas.
The Union Jack frames feature an adapted bridge so that they sit squarely on the 21-year-old’s nose rather than sliding down, which is a common problem among spectacle wearers with Down’s syndrome.
Dispensing optician Andrew Oliver personally arranged for the glasses to be designed by Tom Davies as a surprise for Thomas, who won six silver medals at the European Championships in Slovakia.
‘Ellie-Bea is a long-standing patient of ours and we are all really proud of her success. We thought it was only right that she has some frames made in her honour to reflect her achievements,’ Oliver said.
