Charity runs up marathon cash

Optical charity Fight for Sight stands to gain &\#163;16,000 from 16 optics-related runners in next month's London Marathon.

The event on April 16 will see the largest group of runners ever to support the charity. Three come from Specsavers' Bedford branch - Phillip Morgan (director), Tracey Jones (dispensing assistant) and Andrew Dagwell (optical assistant). They are aiming to raise &\#163;2,500. Others include Valerie Bazeley, a dispensing optician at Sheinman Opticians, Northampton and Paul Evans, a team leader at Hoya Lens UK. Two pensioners are competing on behalf of the charity - Charles Medhurst (74) whose mother was a patient at Moorfields Eye Hospital for 25 years, and Hurburt Baker (72) whose son lost an eye following a squash racket injury.
