City University vision scientist Dean Melmoth has started his epic charity cycle ride on the sub-continent.
Melmoth set off earlier this month with the aim of cycling the 1,500km from the source of the River Ganges in India's southern Himalayas, along its banks to the holy city of Varanasi.
Along the route he is stopping off and visiting some of the sight saving projects charity Orbis has established, and raising £5,000 for the global eye care good cause at the same time.
He expects to complete his journey in two months, and interested readers can keep up to date with his exploits and support his efforts by logging on to: www.orbis.org.uk/dean
