The seven-minute film is part of a major ESA campaign to promote sunglasses, which has been prompted by recent consumer surveys that indicate 36 per cent of Europeans do not wear sunglasses. And while most people are aware of the skin-related dangers of over exposure to the sun, very few are aware of the dangers violet and blue light pose to eyes. The film aims to raise awareness of the issue.

Using easily understandable language and diagrams, the film begins by walking viewers through the basics of the anatomy and functions of the eye. It moves on to describe the various conditions – such as lesions, cataracts and eye cancer – that can develop as a result of over-exposure to the sun.
