A mobile optical practice launched in August to serve rural Dorset is back on the road after being sidelined for around a week owing to mechanical problems with the brakes.

The Eye Bus resumed its travels this week around the area of Beaminster, Holnest, Marnhull, Puddletown and Shillingstone.

The Eye Bus is a fully equipped practice with a testing room. It claims to stock a high street range of frames at internet prices and serves towns and villages that are not near existing opticians.

The service was devised by optometrist Jane Fisher, who had the idea while working in the Dorchester branch of Specsavers. 'Living six miles from Sherborne in the middle of nowhere you realise how far people have to travel to get good eye care,' she told BBC Dorset.
