GOC erases student optometrist

Badran Rehman, a student optometrist based in Manchester, has been erased from the General Optical Council’s register for submitting fraudulent documents and impersonating others.

A fitness to practise committee declared that Rehman’s fitness to undertake training was impaired by reason of misconduct.

Rehman failed modules while undertaking the BSc optometry programme and was required to repeat the year but was told marks would be capped at 40%.

On appeal, Rehman provided evidence purported to be from a person who later confirmed they had not supported the registrant.

Rehman impersonated another person via email on numerous occasions to support his case, which was found to be from the registrant or someone he had instructed.
