Ahead of Google Glass’ planned UK launch in 2014, the Department for Transport (DfT) has indicated that it intends to ban the use of the augmented reality eyewear while behind the wheel.
The DfT was reported to have told gadget magazine Stuff it was concerned about the potential for distraction when using Google Glass while driving and has taken pre-emptive action. Offences such as driving without due care and attention and careless driving under the 1988 Road Traffic Act were both being considered as possible penalties by the DfT. Drivers can expect a £60 fine and three penalty points on their licences – the same as using a mobile phone while driving.
