Marathon missions

Nineteen-year-old visually impaired runner Wendy Jenkins is getting into shape to run the London Marathon, to raise money for the charity Sight Savers International.

Wendy is part of a five-member team that has pledged to raise &\#163;2,000 for the charity. Other runners include Arvind Pandya, who aims to run the marathon while facing backwards and holds the world record for the longest backwards run. Sight Savers says the money raised will help finance its target of carrying out more than 400,000 cataract operations in developing countries over the next two years. Wendy admits the training is hard work, but adds she is determined to finish the 26-mile run, on April 18. Anyone interested in sponsoring Wendy should contact Sight Savers on 07000 142020.
