MDS celebrates professionals

Charity

The Macular Disease Society (MDS) 25th Anniversary Awards for Excellence will have a new category of Optician or Optometrist of the Year in addition to the existing Clinical Service of the Year.

The process is now open for patients to nominate eye care professionals working in a high street business, hospital or local society who provide outstanding services to people with macular disease. Clinical Service of the Year is an award for medical staff, teams or services which provide diagnosis or treatment for macular disease and can demonstrate exceptionally good practice in the care of people with central vision loss. In 2011, eye specialists and their teams from Leicester, Paisley and the Western Eye Hospital in London received the award.

Helen Jackman, chief executive of the MDS, said: 'We are so grateful for the dedication and hard work eye care professionals put into improving the lives of people with macular disease.'

The closing date for entries is May 31, with the awards being presented at the MDS annual conference in September.
