Eight winners have been announced by the Macular Disease Society in its second annual awards.

The MDS said over 80 entries and nominations were made.

The MDS Awards were launched last year to recognise the outstanding, and un-publicised, work being done for sufferers of the condition which is the leading cause of vision loss in the UK.

Helen Jackman, chief executive of the MDS, said: 'The winners are people with a commitment to excellence who, despite the obstacles of heavy workloads or, in some cases, advanced age or sight loss, are passionate about improving the lives of MD patients.'
