A name change has been announced by the Macular Disease Society, which will now be known as the Macular Society. It said research showed that many patients thought the word disease suggested 'contagion' and while macular disease covered a range of eye conditions damaging the central part of the retina, none of them were catching.
There would also be a new logo, with the cost of rebranding met by a restricted grant.
