When contacted by Optician, the company said monitoring the internet and its impact on the retail sector was done as a routine procedure.
'Specsavers, as market leader, is always on the look out for potential business opportunities that will benefit the consumer.
'The internet is a huge growth area that we would be extremely shortsighted not to investigate and keep a watching brief on,' a statement from the company said.
