A young optometrist was tragically killed in a car crash on the A47 near Leicester on January 11.
Nilesh Raja, who was 23 years old, suffered fatal injuries when he lost control of his Toyota Corolla and was hit side-on by an oncoming van. He was pronounced dead on the scene by a doctor travelling behind him. The van's driver sustained minor injuries.
Having travelled to India in 2005 as a volunteer working with the poor, Raja qualified as an optometrist in July 2007. His older brother, Anish, told the Leicestershire Mercury: 'When he was older he wanted to open his own practice and raise money to help poor people in India.'
