Optician provides first interactive CET points

Education

Optician has pioneered the use of newly introduced interactive CET by offering its readers the UK's very first journal distance-learning interactive points and hosting a forum to answer readers' questions.

Major changes to the continuing education and training requirements placed on registrants by the General Optical Council were introduced at the beginning of the year. Optician has been contacted by many readers unsure of what these changes mean to them and how they will be required to collect their points in the future.

Optician clinical editor Bill Harvey, a leading figure in optometric education, has written extensively on this issue in Optician. Starting this week Harvey will be writing a weekly column to address the issues faced by registrants and offer advice and updates. Over the coming weeks he will detail the modalities Optician will be using to offer its readers interactive points. These will complement the traditional distance-learning CET credits the journal will continue to offer. Optician will continue to offer points for all registrants across all of the competencies laid out by the GOC.
