Peter Brett, who worked for Look Designs and Merx during a lengthy optical career as a frame rep, has died. He was 89.

Brett was a popular and respected figure among hundreds of practices in the south for half a century, writes Paul Robinson (Look Designs director). A captain in the British Army during World War 2, he had spells with George Culver and J & H Taylor, among others, before he joined Merx as south east salesman, working there until his formal retirement at the age of  65.

Following his retirement he left Merx in April 1980 and started to work for Look Designs, and completed another 21 years in the profession.

Brett was featured in the press and television in the 1990s as one of Britain's oldest working salesman. He was still working on a part-time basis in 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Connie, and two sons.
