A lack of consumer spending power during the recession has led to a surge in demand for internet frame supplier SelectSpecs' Super Cheap Specs range, according to company owner David McMillan.
Interest in the range, advertised as the world's cheapest styles (News 24.7.09), has been so substantial that it has been extended to include 34 glasses, from an initial choice of eight.
Explaining the increase in demand, McMillan told Optician: 'There are a lot of people with jobs under threat at the moment and money is tight for a lot of families who cannot afford to replace their glasses. We feel we are helping by offering a good product at a very reasonable price.'
