Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond signed a pledge to support the new Scottish Vision Strategy at a reception in Holyrood last week.
The five-year strategy has been agreed by a coalition of government, optical professionals, ophthalmologists and vision charities.
It aims to put an end to avoidable sight loss in the country by detecting and treating conditions early, and to make sure that those who are blind and partially sighted can live as independently as possible by providing support. A range of MSPs from all parties also pledged their support for the strategy during the event.
