
SpaMedica has expanded its range of eye care services and increased the number of hospitals offering treatment, improving NHS patient access to eye health services.
SpaMedica’s macula service, now offered in 21 of its 57 hospitals, aimed to provide rapid treatment for patients with wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) to help curb the progression of the degenerative condition.
Amit Nakum, medical retina service lead at SpaMedica, highlighted a report by The Royal College of Ophthalmologists, which found only 21% of patients nationally started AMD treatment within the recommended 14-day period.
He said that at SpaMedica, 100% of patients were offered an assessment within 14 days of referral and over 87% began their treatment within this timeframe.
