Student optom erased following criminal convictions

The GOC has erased student optometrist Sean Hughes from its register following a hearing that found him unfit to practise due to multiple criminal convictions.

Hughes was convicted at Nottingham Crown Court of several offences, including controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship between December 1, 2020, and July 26, 2021; assault occasioning actual bodily harm on May 22, 2021; and possession of a bladed article in a public place on July 25, 2021.

The GOC committee noted that Hughes showed no remorse, failed to acknowledge any wrongdoing and provided no evidence of insight or remediation regarding his conduct.
