A week of news – Confederation reaches out

Joe Ayling

Last week the Optical Confederation managed to squeeze a vast number of burning issues for the profession into its conference in London.

Chair Don Grocott rightly urged ECPs to work together and educate the public.

After all, how many high street visitors are really aware of the eye health services available within the four walls of an optical practice?

The AOP’s Lyndon Taylor was brave enough to suggest optometry simply had to move away from a product-based model.

However, with enhanced service contracts still in their infancy and even health minister Lord Howe admitting slow progress to delegates, it could be some time before latest products and offers play second fiddle to eye health.
