C'est la Caravelle

Jacques Anquetil took his monika from the French passenger plane of the era and was known as such in the peleton but it was nice to read about the real thing in the Sunday paper's look back section.

There was another interesting 50 years ago piece in the Sunday Telegraph yesterday. It concerned GPs who were getting a bit concerned over the number of older drivers on the road and the danger they may pose to the rest of the motoring public. It didn't go quite as far as talking about impaired vision but you sort of got the idea that wasn't too far away. In true Telegraph style there were plenty of rebuttals from Sir Hufton Bufton types complaining about reckless young drivers.

The piece went on to talk about the burden these older, and younger, drivers placed on the insurance premiums of others. Interesting to note who won out. These days the cost of insurance for a 17 year old is likely to be several times that of the cost of the car being driven.  The insurance industry has done somehting about premiums but it doesn't look like the legislators have done much about inadequate driving.
