Hyper exciting

Rory Brogan

Here's a new material development I'm keen to try out - the HyperGel from Bausch+Lomb that was revealed in Birmingham last weekend at the BCLA Conference and Exhibition http://finance.yahoo.com/news/bausch-lomb-launches-biotrue-oneday-113000387.html;_ylt=A2KJ3CYUpMRPCU4A2l7QtDMD Described by B+L as being the next-generation of daily disposable materials, it is said to offer the best features of conventional hydrogels and silicone hydrogels. The first product made from HyperGel is Biotrue ONEday, described by the company as a premium daily disposable, and the bio-inspired material is designed to help retain moisture and optical shape after hours of wear. The proof of the pudding will be in the wearing, but the lens sounds promising in terms of oxygen transmissibility, and an outer surface that is designed to mimic the lipid layer of the tear film. Hopefully I will be able to report on the official arrival of the lenses to market in the UK some time later this year as well as getting my clean paws on some to see if they offer comfort of the hyper nature that is claimed.
